Just the Tonic !
Professor Ken Board, Chair of the Llanelli Grammar School Old Boys and Graig Former Pupils Association was proud to present Ms. Angela Lodwick ,Head of CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) with a cheque for £750 in support of their Surf Tonic project.
The monies will be used to sponsor two young people from the Llanelli area who suffer with mental health problems to attend a six week therapy program where surfing and other sea-based activities are used to help reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health.
Results have shown how this innovative project can have far reaching personal and social benefits for vulnerable children and young people within the area.
Quote from a Tonic participant :
“ The lovely thing about Tonic is ….once we are in our suits we are just surfers, it’s not about us. Er can forget our pains and worries, no one is judging us. The other surfers were lovely and friendly, I guess each has their own story but are not burdened by this in the sea. The sea is all around us, we are part of nature, and can be in the moment with the waves and ourselves. “
